Falling prey to cyber threats and crime #DigitalDefence
4 October 2025
What should you do if you encounter cyber threats?
Were you ever a victim, or know of anyone who had fallen prey to cyber threats or crime? We know how distressing this can be. Digitalisation is a daily part of our lives, and we can still be savvy while safeguarding ourselves online!
Here’s what to do if you ever encounter cyber threats:
👮 Alert the authorities
Cybercrime is a serious criminal offence in Singapore. File a police report or submit your cybersecurity incident to SingCERT. If you had given away personal information or lost access to an account linked to your credit card, monitor your online accounts for any suspicious activity. If you spot any unauthorised transactions, contact your bank immediately to block these transactions and file a police report.
🔄 Change your passwords
If access is still available, secure your affected accounts immediately. Set a strong passphrase and enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
🔒 Run a security scan
Run an anti-virus app to remove malware and block access to spam messages and unsafe websites.
📲 Notify your friends and family
You may also want to warn your colleagues, family and friends in your email list to delete any suspicious messages that came from your account.
❤️ Do not feel alone
It’s easy to feel alone as a victim of cyber threats and crime. But remember, you are not! Consider reaching out for victim support and community support.
Good cyber hygiene protects our data from falling into the wrong hands. Every device, password and app we secure strengthens our cyber space. As we journey forward, our shared vigilance and collective support will be our greatest strength in staying cyber safe!
