Safeguarding ourselves online #DigitalDefence

How can we can better protect ourselves from falling prey to cyber threats?
Many of us respond in haste when triggered by unsolicited requests and messages. The sudden confusion can make us vulnerable. By taking a moment to stop and check with official sources, family, and friends, we can better protect ourselves from falling prey to cyber threats.
Jaga the Cybersecurity Hedgehog is here to remind us to take a cognitive break – to ‘Stop and Check’ before we act - and offer three other ways to safeguard ourselves online:

1️⃣ Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and use strong passwords
2FA adds a layer of protection, such as a One-Time Password (OTP) from a digital token or an SMS sent to your mobile device, or biometrics. This ensures that even if hackers obtain your password, your account is still protected if they are unable to get hold of the second factor.
2️⃣ Update your software promptly
While security has improved with better regulations and industry standards, many devices remain vulnerable due to weak authentication, outdated firmware, and a lack of visibility into connected networks. Up-to-date software and apps limits the time that cybercriminals have to find and exploit these vulnerabilities.
3️⃣ Install ScamShield and anti-virus apps
Cybercriminals can deploy malware to corrupt files, steal data, and even gain access to your social media and bank accounts. In addition, scammers often target victims through SMSes or phone calls. Be sure to add the ScamShield app, which can protect you by detecting scam messages and blocking scam calls
Small actions, big impact! We form the first line of defence against cyber threats. Let's practise good cyber hygiene and make our cyberspace safe!
