Pulau Jong

Located about 6km off the southern coast of mainland Singapore lies an uninhabited, undeveloped, and largely inaccessible small island called Pulau Jong. Loosely translated as ‘Junk Island’ in Malay because its silhouette is said to resemble a Chinese junk boat, Pulau Jong is touted as one of the last untouched islands of Singapore.
Pulau Jong is surrounded by a reef and comprised mostly cliffs. Much of the island is submerged underwater at high tide, and only the cliffs covered in lush greenery can be seen. During spring tide, the water level at Pulau Jong can drop over 3 metres in just 6 hours, revealing a massive reef 6 times larger than the island!
As there is no landing jetty, it can be difficult to access the interior. Some conservation groups visit the island from time to time to survey the reefs that appear along with the spring tides.
Fun fact: Pulau Jong is only 1km away from Pulau Semakau!
