A misleading headline, out-of-context video, or doctored image can go viral in minutes, shaping opinions before facts have a chance to catch up. Under Digital Defence, every Singaporean is the first line of defence against threats from the digital domain.

Between the morning commute and the late-night scrolls, disinformation can be sometimes the first thing we wake up to and the last thing we see. Perhaps it was a “Forwarded” message in our group chat, or a deepfake video that looks uncomfortably real.
On the digital front, this means being discerning about the information we consume.
⏸️ Pause before sharing
Feeling excited or provoked after reading something? The next time a post triggers your emotions, take a moment — don’t forward on impulse. This stops disinformation from spreading unchecked.
🔍 Check the source and context
If the website is unfamiliar, or has a reputation for being unreliable, ask yourself: “Who posted it and why?” Understanding the intent and context prevents misinterpretation.
✅ Verify against trusted sources
Always check the information against official statements or credible news outlets. Look for independent evidence that confirms the details are legitimate.
📢 Flag out false information
Report online falsehoods to the relevant authorities or social media platforms, so that they can act on it. Use the “Report” function on the app. And if it’s in your group chat, keep your friends and loved ones safe by correcting the disinformation.
