Pasar malams, or "night markets" in Malay, are a cherished part of Singapore's cultural landscape.
Well-known and loved by locals for their mouth-watering selection of snacks, affordable wares, and vibrant atmosphere, pasar malams could be found in Singapore as far back as the 1920s.
Once phased out in the 1970s due to traffic congestion and noise pollution, pasar malams have undergone numerous changes over different time periods. Yet, their cultural significance and essence of community remain true. Today, pasar malams are a living heritage that continue to excite us with its unique charm.
